SLOG 2

This week is coming to an end, however the first assignment for this course will be due soon. I have not yet looked over the assignment in detail, but I have glanced over it quickly. The assignment doesn't look too long, but I feel like it's going to be challenging. I'm actually glad that Professor Heap allows students to work in groups. Working in a group will benefit me because it will allow me to communicate my ideas as well as listen to the ideas of my peers.

As for the material in this weeks lectures, I found that it was easier to comprehend than the material covered in last weeks lectures. Conjunction, disjunction, and negation were pretty easy to understand. At first, I thought negating a whole statement would be confusing, but when he said that you negate from left to right and explained it, I understood quite quickly. The universal quantification would toggle to the existential quantification and vice versa.

The quiz that was done this week surprised me. I felt somewhat confident that I would get a 2/2 again. However, during the quiz I somewhat freaked out and started over thinking. The answer that I put down was really long and looked really confusing. After discussing the answer to the quiz with my fellow peers I have realized that it wasn't that confusing and was actually quite simple.

I will try to put in more effort into understanding the material so that I will ace next weeks quiz and possibly attain a decent mark on the assignment.

CSC165: SLOG 1

As a student taking the course CSC165, I have found it to be quite different compared to my other courses that I'm taking. Throughout this week, I have learned some of the notation that is used throughout this course such as the universal quantification ∀ and existential quantification \exists \!\,. As well, I have learned that the English language can be ambiguous and not as effective as communicating through mathematical reasoning. The thing that I enjoyed this week is meeting new people. However, something that I didn't enjoy and that I found challenging was working with venn diagrams. The questions in the first exercise relating to venn diagrams stumped me. I'm still trying to learn and fully understand how to use them correctly, especially when placing the "X", "O", and "?." Reading over my notes and seeking help would be the best way for me to understand. Material that was covered this week was somewhat easy, and somewhat confusing. Eventually, if I keep reviewing my notes, material will become much easier. The quiz that was done this week was quite simple in my opinion. I was scared that if it included venn diagrams I would do poorly. It turned out that it didn't have any of those questions. All in all, this week has been a normal non-stressful week and hopefully this course does not bring too much stress onto myself.
